1ST/2ND GRADE SPIRAL REVIEW {MATH + READING} + FREE TESTER PAGES

I cannot believe it!  I am actually getting my 2nd Grade February Good Morning Work packs out without sweating like a mad woman on the last day of the month.  It's so hard creating something that I don't actually get to use this year.  However, I officially tossed my hat into the ring to roll with my crew to 2nd next year.  Maybe this was the incentive I needed to focus and hammer these out a bit early this month??

Both of these collections are packed with pages that specifically target the new Common Core standards.  I have this handy dandy little flip chart that has me WAY up to date on all of those new benchmarks we are expected to serve up to our kids.  While creating these, I really strive to be very mindful of each an every problem I place in these (maybe this is why they take me ages to finish - just a thought).  My goal is to apply the standards in ways that are student-friendly and challenging.  It's a crazy line to try and walk when dealing with the "core" {I know a ton of you are with me on this one}, but I think I've navigated it well.  (I actually got excited at the possibility of get to use these next year while I put the finishing touches on these.)

Unlike other Morning Work Packets, I always chunked my topics.  In other words, you will see the same 6-8 standards for five days in a row.  As the week winds down, you receive fewer and fewer questions from students allowing you to get all that "busy teacher morning junk" out of the way.  I have also found that this strategy empowers kiddos to trust themselves by encouraging independence in a safe manner.  I also include a SUPER STUDENT CHALLENGE at the bottom of each page.  This higher level question is perfect for those above grade level kiddos who need the bar raised on 'em!

A wonderful cyber friend uses both the reading and math sets in her classroom. {We actually met through FB posts about these pages . . . crazy, huh??!!} Well, the amazing Jenna over at I've Got It Made In Second Grade even sent me some pictures of her babes in action today.  They made my buttons pop right off this afternoon . . . quality kid work makes my heart skip beats :) Thanks for sharing Jenna!!!

If you are interested in trying out something to help spice up your Morning Work routine, I'd love to have you test these packs out with your babes!  In fact, I am offering up a handful of pages from both sets for just this reason.  Simply click on the image of the Freebie pages you would like to try.  Choose one or both :)

These two new sets cover all of the Common Core Standards that most 2nd graders have learned or will learn during this mid-year sprint.  I chat with numerous 2nd grade teachers every month and they feed me standards they would like to see pop up.  I added arrays and solid figure riddles into the mix this round per special request ;) I also slipped in a little opinion writing as well as tweaked vowel sound and sentence structure work.

On a final note, if you teach 1st grade, I have sets for you too.  I use these EVERY day and these packets are one of my top sellers.  Click on the pict that you fancy and read up on these a bit more . . . oh, and you can find tester pages for these in last year's post.

Alright, I am out.  Gotta go rest up for a bit.  My hubs has been needling me to get off of the computer and I will (in due time, my pretty).  Sure, I am a little over one week post surgery . . . but, I've got stuff to do man!!

  2. I was excited whenever I saw the second grade packets. Being that I am a K-2 Learning Disabilities teacher, those looked a little hard for my students. I was even more excited whenever I saw that you had first grade packets!!! I cannot wait to look into those more for my students. I love your work!
