READING RESPONSE HOMEWORK + AN EPIC TRY IT FREE TUESDAY

The house is a mess.  We are down to frozen hamburger patties and Rice Chex. I can't remember the last time I showered. My husband is whining that he is watching TV all by himself.  Oh, that's right . . . it's Back to School season! Who's with me on this one?  Good golly this time of year is crazy.  However, I thrive on this kind of chaos {call me crazy} . . . and I am itchin' to meet the new crew.  All of this excitement has kicked the creative bug into high gear.  In the past few days I have been working round the clock to get all of my latest ideas out of my crazy brain.  Here's my latest labor of love.    

So here's the skinny on this one.  I had a 2nd grade teacher friend approach me with an idea for Reading Response Homework.  "Please make it pretty," she said.  Well, I took a look at it and fell in love.  So, in addition to "prettying" it up, I also added some bonus goods to keep the Reading Response party going on the home front.  

This is an absolutely brilliant idea - embedding reading response into the nightly reading log takes home reading to the next level!  Sure, AR is great, but getting our babes thinking on a deeper level is so much more valuable in the long run.  

With this said, I worked to create a packet that challenges kids to really dig into a book and think critically about the story.  My ultimate goal . . . a year filled with oodles of QUALITY READING EXPERIENCES.  

In this collection, students get to chose a Reading Response Question to answer after they have read for the evening.  The best part -- it's part of the reading log (no muss, no fuss).  

This packet contains everything you need to get going -- parent letters, reading log templates, and a Reading Response Choice Sheet.  I also tossed in tracking sheets, awards/certificates, sticker charts, and classroom practice activities. Oh, and I should mention that almost all of the templates have an EDITABLE version.  I wanted to give you the option of taking this in a different direction :)

This was designed with 2nd and 3rd graders in mind.
It could work for some high-level firsties at the end of the year :)
