MY SWEET STORY: A HOLIDAY-FLAVORED FREEBIE

Merry December!  I cannot believe that we are already rollin' into the Christmas season.  It absolutely blows my mind.  With all this said, it is the season for giving . . . so why not start December off with a sweet little freebie?

I came up with the general idea for this game my first year of teaching, but it got lost in my files when I transferred to 1st grade that next year.  For some miraculous reason it popped into my head last week (I think it's all the adjective practice we have been doing in class).  So, I decided to revamp it a bit and add a holiday touch.

Here's how this game rolls . . .

Prepare for this activity by printing out a class set of the story templates and adjective mats of choice.  In addition, every child will need a peppermint candy. (I suggest having a few back up candies as they can break or roll away!)
To begin play, students drop their peppermint candy on their adjective mat. The word that the treat lands on (or is closest to) is written in any space on their story template.  Students continue this process until all of the spaces on their story template are filled!
Here are samples of the story templates and adjective mats.
All are available in B&W versions!

Here are a few additional notes on the game . . . .
  • As kiddos completed the task, I had them illustrate their stories on the back of their story template (many colored the front too).
  • We are not allowed to let our students eat hard tack candy, so I traded them a small candy cane for their peppermint when they finished the activity.
  • When everyone's crazy story was completed, I had my kids cruise the room and read their stories to each other!
  • Multiple templates are included in this FREEBIE pack.  One story is more "decodable" than the other.  In addition, one of the adjective mats is a little crazier than the other . . . pick the one that is right for you and your crew of kiddos!
This cutie read her story to at least a dozen people . . .
and she hit me up twice ;)
Talk about going the "extra mile!"
We were all smiles before, during, and after this one!
Alright friends I gotta get to gettin' this morning.  If you want this FREEBIE you can snag it HERE.  Be sure to check out the rest of the wonderful freebies up for grabs this week by clickin' on that little button below.
